This tour will take you around the outside the City of Culture. You will discover and be amazed at the lines and volumes projected by the New York architect Peter Eisenman. The visit starts at the entrance to the Gaiás Centre Museum, one of the most remarkable buildings in the complex, with its spectacular glass façade of nearly 43 meters in height. It then takes you through the broad Central Plaza, giving you a chance to see the play of lines and forms that make up the design of the City, the uses and history of the different buildings, and the monumental nature of the architectural complex.
The tour includes the iconic Hejduk Towers, designed originally as botanical towers for the park of Belvís in Santiago by the architect John Hejduk, a friend and colleague of Eisenman in the New York Five. They were subsequently integrated by Eisenman into his Gaiás project following the death of Hejduk.
The green spaces are not left out of the tour, which will allow you to discover briefly the two gardens constructed in the heart of Gaiás: the Literary Garden and the Theatrical Garden. There is also the Balea Park, a space for play and leisure, which pays homage to one of the great Galician artists: the Coruña-born Urbano Lugrís, and his iconic marine monsters.
