Specialised staff guide you around the Gaiás Centre Museum to uncover the viking culture in a new way and travel back in time, immersing yourself in a rich and fascinating civilisation that has captivated the imagination of people throughout the centuries.
In this guided tour you will be able to get a closer look at one of the most outstanding exhibition projects of the year: A Viking Life. The exhibition is made up of a selection of 120 pieces, most of which belong to museums of history and archaeology of reference in Europe around the viking culture and which can only be seen in Santiago de Compostela between July 2024 and January 2025.

The exhibition tells what life was like for a person in the Viking Age (from the second half of the 8th to the second half of the 11th century) beyond the preconceptions and stereotypes of popular culture about this civilisation. For example, it reveals the participation of women in exploration campaigns, or emphasises viking culture beyond Scandinavia, in its interaction with other peoples and lands, both in violent exchanges and conquests, but also through settlements or the establishment of trade relations.
It is curated by Irene García Losquiño, PhD in Scandinavian Studies from the University of Aberdeen, researcher and specialist in the Viking Age.
