2nd gathering of young artists - Sept 2012

The City of Culture of Galicia will host the 2nd edition of the ENCONTRO DE ARTISTAS NOVOS «CIDADE DA CULTURA» that will be held from September 9th to 14th. The City of Culture will become again a place of exchanging where one can reflect on the essential aspects of contemporary artistic creation as well as on other aspects related to the construction of a piece of work and to its showing in the real world.

Aims

  • Young artists from Galicia living together with young artists from other places
  • Debating on the current situation of Contemporary Art
  • Proporcionar un espazo de encontro e intercambio de coñecementos e ideas entre artistas e outros axentes culturais (comisarios, críticos, etc.)
  • Making participants know the main infrastructures in Galicia that are devoted to Contemporary Art

Routes

There will be visits to the main institutions in Galicia devoted to the promotion of Contemporary Art. The City of Culture, CGAC~Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea (Galician Centre of Contemporary Arts), MARCO~Museo de Arte Contemporánea de Vigo (Vigo Museum of Contemporary Art), and MACUF~Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Unión Fenosa Gas Natural.

The author and the author's work

Through a series of lectures given by artists of renowned prestige both in national and international contemporary art circuits, the participants will be able to get into contact with other traditions and artistic production processes.

Open Forum

All the participants will make a public presentation focused on their work and their own personal creative project.

As a meeting place, understandings that it is necessary to set networks that enable the exchanging between young artists and the sector's agents, and with the aim to encourage mutual collaboration, this 2nd edition includes a new figure: the "Art Followers":  David Barro, Javier Díaz Guardiola, Guillermo Espinosa, Laura López Marín, Tania Pardo, Sergio Rubira, and Manuel Segade are the critics or commissioners that will play the role of observers.
