Cultural Action

The City of Culture presents a program to place the power and the architectural beauty of this project at the service of culture, a program that is directed to all audiences that may feel represented by it, and in which each individual may find his or her reason to approach Mount Gaiás. With this program, this space becomes filled with life, inviting citizens to explore the different fields of art and knowledge.

With this aim, we advocate for an open, plural and multidisciplinary program, paying attention to new creative languages and trends, yet at the same time valuing Galicia's cultural heritage, working to project it in the spatial dimension, to reach new territories, and also in time, seeking imaginative, current formats to seduce younger generations.

Gaiás wishes to become a “factory for projects” to dynamize our fabric of cultural industries, a platform to give visibility to our best artistic expressions and a meeting point to exchange ideas and experiences, by connecting to national and international networks of creativity and knowledge.

This program is committed to creators, and especially to young artists. Emerging talents will find here new ways to expand their training, as well as opportunities to learn about the new cultural reality in other countries, providing a space to meet consolidated talents, all of which resources are directed to set the foundations for a more creative citizenship.

The support and trust in this program provided by the Board of Trustees at the Gaiás Foundation are noteworthy; its encouragement and confidence in the project are of the essence to get it going, to turn the City of Culture into a true factor for the social and cultural dynamization for Galicia.

In order to achieve the goals of this program, we have grouped the relevant activities under six sections:

  1. VISITING | The city opens up to new audiences, expanding the opportunity to get to know it better, making this a participative and enriching experience
  2. EXPLORING | We present a broad range of options to adventure along the classic or contemporary routes in the fields of music, the performing arts, sculpture, literature, though and any other artistic discipline.
  3. CREATING | Promoting new art projects and any initiatives that may allow to foster new creative processes.
  4. LEARNING | Education actions directed to enhance the training of young artists and cultural managers, not only by acquiring knowledge and new skills, but also through shared experiences and opening up to new realities.
  5. EXCHANGING | Creating spaces for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, fostering interconnection to other centers and institutions, both national and international.
  6. ADDING UP | Being “active partners”, complementing, articulating and structuring other cultural initiatives.

Six categories that lay out the paths for a new, vibrant cultural territory, wherein each individual may choose how to participate in the broad array of exhibitions, shows, meetings, training programs; in summary, all the options to live the collective project that is the City of Culture.
